5,000 books?
In 366 days? As how?
Itās joke o. Leave 5,000 books for Kyle XY. Iām not a superhuman & neither are you.
What we can be, however, is readers.
Pick a number, put a cap on it, itās up to you. What Iām more concerned about is helping you build a reading habit in 2024 & if youāre here, feel comfortable.
But before we get into it, Happy New Year investorrrrr š„³ me & you, we made it.
Cheers to a year of (fill in the gap yourself :D)

Okay so to the meat of the matter: How can you build a healthier reading habit in 2024? How can you read more & enjoy the process without it being a chore?
Here are 8 points Iāve gathered that might help:
Read books you love: As obvious as this sounds, itās very valid & important if youāre trying to build a better reading habit in 2024. It has more to do with reading what you genuinely enjoy rather than reading what someone else considers āinterestingā or what has a high rating on TikTok.
Reading shouldnāt be a chore, it should be something you look forward to doing, like watching a movie. Reading something you have no interest in is sad, letās not lie. Do yourself a favor in 2024 & pick up books that are more your spec. Find joy in your choices.

Quit books midway: Youāre a couple of pages into a book & you can just feel that itās not entering, the story is not making sense to you or youāre finding it boring. Drop it. Nobody will beat you & itās only your time thatās wasting.
Forget all that āI like to finish what I startā business if e din dey e din dey.
Iāve tried so many times to read Hannibal Lecter because people who have read it say good things about it but my brain never ever cooperates. I gave up. Good luck to all involved but I canāt relate & I wonāt let that bog me down from moving on to other books.
So even if itās temporarily, drop the book thatās not bringing you joy, find another one & maybe come back later.
Read more than 1 book at once: This might not work for everybody but itās worth giving a shot, especially because of my previous point. Reading can go south fast when you absolutely have to get through a boring one before having the luxury of picking a better one.
For instance, currently, Iām reading 2 books & itās important to note that I used to be āpro-read-1-book-at-a-timeā so this is quite a new territory for me but itās working well so far. What Iām doing is mixing genres. One of the books is fan fiction, and the other is career-related. When Iām bored out of my mind, I pick the more interesting one, the fan fiction. When Iām in the mood to read for knowledge, I pick the other.
It can be more than 2 books even. The ākokoā is not to let one book drag you down before picking another. If you have many books on your reading list, itāll be easy to pick & choose one based on what mood youāre in.
This can also easily go sideways but Iāll leave that for you to regulate.
Go offline, buy a Kindle: You want to read more but itās tough doing so when being constantly online is distracting. If this is the case, you should consider going offline to read. Turn off your data for just a little time to properly consume the book. Youād love it. Well until you sleep off. But itās worth a try innit?
Something thatās also helped me (although quite expensive) is getting an e-reader device, a Kindle. Hands down one of the best purchases Iāve ever made because I can do away with my phone or PC & read better. Add it to your birthday wishlist this year, miracle happens & I have a plug if you need one ;)
Give audiobooks a chance: I never knew I was a fan of podcasts until I started giving it a chance, multitasking podcasts with housework instead of music. This could be you, with audiobooks.
Iām not even going to lie, I donāt do audiobooks. Theyāre not my cup of tea, yet. But they might be yours, especially if reading still feels like a chore for you. Explore other formats, till you find your vibe. Maybe later in life Iād pick audiobooks up but for now, I like reading texts.
Buy a book: Apart from appreciating the authorās handwork when you do this, youāre also holding yourself accountable to going through with the book because āmoney must not wasteā. So even if itās 2 books you can afford to buy in 2024, do that & own your thing.
Shape your workspace: Spend time making your workspace book-friendly. The people who came up with the quote āhow of sight, how of mindā ate because it really do be like that.
Physical workspace: put the books on the table where you can pick them up when MTN/Airtel starts moving mad.
Digital workspace: Arrange your screen so the book apps are more in view than Twitter is.
Accessible, thatās the point.
Lastly, forget the numbers: Forget it. Forget it. Itās very unimportant than actually finding pleasure in the books you read. So what if you donāt read 50 books in 2024? Unless thereās a prize at the end, I really donāt see the point.
Thereās no need to run, to rush. Chill & enjoy what youāre reading. Pick up lessons, take notes if necessary, summarize them & apply.
Enjoy what you read in 2024. Then maybe add a numeric goal. Donāt mix up the order.
š My recommendations
Iām forever a fan of beautiful books & if youāre looking for some to get into, check out:
A Man Called Ove - Fredrik Backman
Anxious People - Fredrik Backman
Tomorrow Died Yesterday - Chimeka Garricks
Fourth Wing - Rebecca Yarros
Verity - Colleen Hoover
The Silent Patient - Alex Michaelides
Any James Hadley Chase book (I still have a lot to get through)
Crazy Rich Asians (the trilogy) - Kevin Kwan
ā¦to list a few. Feel free to ask if needed. Maybe I have a plug, maybe I have a copy, just ask.
Sometimes all you need is a mental shift. You donāt have to be a āreaderā to read so donāt knock yourself down ācos you find it hard to get through 2 books when someone else has already done 10.
Have fun with it instead.
Yea, thatās it investor, Iām done. I hope Iāve been able to help somehow. You deserve to enjoy what others are enjoying in books.
Please share this with anybody you think needs to see it. They donāt even have to invest.
Also, Iām always on the lookout for recommendations so be nice to me & share a book that youāve read & loved.
See you at the end of the month where I gist on how Kimiko got badly attacked (smh).
