Let’s yap about being average & basking in it. (“bask” = to revel in/make the most of something)

You know what I’ve come to realize? (It’s actually common knowledge that just needs to be acknowledged): out of 100% of a population, only about 20% will be highlights ✨

If you ask me where I pulled my stats from, I’ll lie & say chatGPT.

Anyway, I’ve come to realize that not everyone will go viral, have viral moments, crazy numbers—not everyone will blow up overnight 💥

The people who do, are only a handful. Even if it seems like everywhere you turn everyone is blowing up, it’s not the reality.

The majority are the average people.

And this is far from an insulting term ‘cos I’m one of these average people.

One of those people who have to try and try before they reach a desired number. One of those people who have to constantly show up if they want to build something tangible, one of those people who won’t simply smell 1k subscribers even when they’re almost 2 years in.

And I’ve made peace with this fact.

I just want many people who are like me to do the same.

To not stop trying even when it feels like no one is watching or the results are not massively immediate.

And it’s not like this is an easy pill to swallow. It’s okay to wish you were one of the popular ones, to be sad, to shake your head & wonder why people don’t have eyes to appreciate what you put out—it’s okay to virtually konk these people in the head.

What’s not okay is to not try.

If you enjoy it, if you see 1 reason why you should be doing it, if you can do it, then do it. As long as you’re not under any external pressure.

Show up for yourself.

Show up for people as you’d love to be shown up for.

Appreciate the tiny numbers you pull & the people behind them.

Maybe one day the big attention will come, maybe not. Who knows anything?

If you ruled the world, what would you do?

(This wasn’t an anonymous question from the form I put out. I snagged it from Trevor Noah’s podcast)

And it’s an easy one; evil doers won’t go scot-free. They will suffer & perish. Period.

On the vain side of things, I’d make skincare ridiculously cheap. ‘Cos everyone deserves clear skin. Whether or not you have food to eat :)

✧ Things happened in April

💻 Dramatic devices

April was good, but it was also very dramatic.

My laptop went bad in April. It just chose not to come on on a random Friday. Imagine my shock.

But then, guess who also got a new laptop in April? A MacBook at that! Before the former stopped working, I’d already made plans to replace it. It must’ve been jealous & wanted one last attention from me. And it got the attention.

The learning curve though (Windows to Mac transition) has been frustratingly humbling but I’ll be fine. It’s the price I have to pay for salvation.

Guess what also shut down in April, my Kindle 🙂

My e-reader also gave up on me lmaoooo. It’s fine, I’m fine. These things happen smh.

📚 Books

I read quite the number in April despite not having my Kindle (went back to reading on my laptop instead).

11 books total. 1 is missing from the frame ‘cos it was an ARC (Advanced Reader’s Copy).

Top 3 reads were—Yellowface, Memoirs of a Lagos Wedding Planner, and The Widow who Died with Flowers in Her Mouth.

Bottom 3— And Every Morning The Way Home Gets Longer & Longer, Memoirs of a Serial Best Man, and The Answer is No.

Speaking of, in the last letter, I shared how I got an L when I sent an author mail:

Well, I’m pleased to announce that I shot my shot at 2 other authors after that & 1 was an instant hit. The other, a pending hit — meaning it would come once it’s published 🤞🏽

Speaking of books again, I unlocked a portal. I made my 1st video review on TikTok! Clap for me please. (Don’t check it out here) :*

💤 Drawing the curtain

I’ve talked a lot, let’s round up with some quick facts:

• I hit 900 days learning Spanish on Duolingo ⚡️

• Rewatching The Vampire Diaries was the best decision ever! The nostalgia >> I recommend

• Digital drawing is taking a pause because I no longer have the means. We’ll go traditional in the mean time.

I know this was quite the long one but then so was April.
